Hi there! It has been a week of relax and chill not only at Drexel but in the whole country; a week, when all students are planning not to procrastinate all the time and get prepared for finals; and a week, when these plans don’t come true that often… But I’m done with turkeys and pumpkin pies and I’m back with a new blog for you guys. This weekend when I’m preparing for final couple of weeks of study and deadlines, I want to tell you about my observations about food, sports and everything else around Drexel campuses and Philly.
So, first and foremost is of course food. And I can provide you several ways how to deal with it here in Philadelphia. If you are oriented to spend less for your breakfast, lunch and dinner and still stay alive, cooking at home is your option. And to make it come true you need a supermarket. Obviously everyone can have numerous, different opinions about which supermarket is suitable for them. But, to my mind, ACME supermarket is the most sufficient choice for you. It has both food and home goods sections and if you live somewhere around University City, you will have one pretty much in the center of the district. I’m personally using this method to feed myself here in Philly and it works perfectly.
Second most common way to deal with food issues are food trucks. And because these guys are nice businessmen and they know their target market, you will find a bunch of them along 33rd Street in the heart of Drexel campuses. They cost a bit less than restaurants and if you are okay with that, you can get nice Asian or Latin-American lunch after your classes without any stress.
Another important and cool thing is Drexel Recreation Center. It is a fully equipped gym that works 7 days per week and that is absolutely free for all Drexel students. I am fond of doing sports, and back in Prague I was using the nearby park for jogging and exercise. When I found out about the Drexel gym, I made it one of my challenges for this semester to use it on a daily basis and take everything from this opportunity. So, if you are a sports person, definitely check Drexel’s gym out. You can find it on Market Street, right across from the library.

Another great thing to do is hiking. Despite of your experience at this, this activity will help distract you from city deadlines and to recharge your batteries for new challenges. Drexel has many, many clubs and one of them is called Weekend Warriors. These guys are doing hikes almost every weekend throughout the quarter and I was trying to get the spot on one of them for three weeks in November but all unsuccessful:( And my very first hike will happen only in one week, on the first weekend of December. And even though I haven’t been there yet, I’m giving my recommendation for these guys and I’m sure you will enjoy Pennsylvania and New Jersey landscapes too.
Well, that is it for today, folks. I wish you a great last week of study and I will see you in December to make a big final conclusion of this journey in my final blog. Take care!
