The beautiful town of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, is tucked away on the southernmost point of the Nicoya Peninsula. It is well-known for its immaculate beaches, lively atmosphere, and wealth of natural beauty. There are surfers scattered around the beach which inhabits the largest waves I’ve seen in Costa Rica. This makes it a surf haven for many traveling with a sense of adventure in mind. My friends and I eagerly set out on an excursion to see the wonders of Santa Teresa, Montezuma, and Paquera, on a weekend trip from the busy streets of San Jose.
Our journey began with a scenic ferry voyage from the port of Puntarenas to Paquera, which provided breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and lush coastline. We were excited about the experiences that were offered to us as we docked in Paquera.
We were welcomed by the kind staff at a small hostel by the beach when we arrived in Santa Teresa. We settled into our rooms which were only a short stroll from the immaculate sands to the sound of waves smacking against the shore. We headed to the beach, anticipating the beauty of the famous Santa Teresa sunsets, as the sun began to set. Our jaws dropped when we saw the sky change into a canvas of vibrant colors and shed a captivating glow over the horizon.
As darkness fell, we could not take our eyes off the sky show overhead. Stargazing in Santa Teresa was made even more spectacular by the clear skies. We sat and marveled at the beauty of the night sky as constellations twinkled overhead.
The next day, we set out on an amazing journey to the hidden jewel, the Montezuma waterfall, which is tucked away in the green tropical jungle. After following lush paths, we were greeted with a view of cascading water falling into a glistening pool below. We experienced a deep sense of peace in the natural world as we submerged ourselves in the chilly waves and enjoyed the symphony of nature around us.
We were presented with a once-in-a-lifetime experience, in the charming town of Paquera, to see bioluminescent plankton lighting up the seas of the Gulf of Nicoya. As we boarded a boat in the shadow of night, the sea began to shine and sparkle captivating us. Our bodies and hair appeared to be covered with diamond-like body glitter. A captivating sight that resembled something from a fairy tale.
We left Santa Teresa and its surrounding communities with a heart full of appreciation for the life-changing experiences we had together and the incredible beauty we had seen everywhere we looked. With priceless memories that will last a lifetime, our weekend excursion was a witness to the majesty of Costa Rica’s natural beauties.
