Our first stop was the Capitol, situated on the Mall, a vast avenue linking it with the Washington Monument. Surrounded by impressive museums, the Capitol stood as a representation of American democracy. We embarked on a guided tour of the Capitol, delving into the rich history of Congress and marveling at the Library of Congress, an amazing construction full of knowledge and culture.
Following our Capitol tour, we strolled towards the Washington Monument, a towering tribute to the nation’s first president. The vast distances in Washington were pretty notorious as we walked for nearly an hour, enjoying the views of a breathtaking sunset in the sky.
Afterwards, we had some burritos for dinner at a Mexican restaurant, fueling up for the adventures that were waiting us the next day. Our itinerary included a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, where we learned about the struggles of slavery, its abolition, and the civil rights movement of the 1970s.
The following morning, we embarked on a guided tour of the Capitol and other significant buildings, which we had missed the previous day because the tours were fully booked. We observed these architectural wonders and absorbed all the knowledge of American history.
In the afternoon, we explored the National Air and Space Museum, where we were amazed by the impressive exhibition of aviation and space exploration. The museum’s vast galleries offered a glimpse into humanity’s wonder for the skies and beyond. Since Luca (my friend) is amazed by planes and spacecrafts, this was his favorite stop of the trip.
Washington D.C.’s grandeur and spaciousness was very impressive, very different from the bustling streets of Philadelphia. It captivated us with its monumental landmarks and expansive views. Our itinerary for our last day promised to be equally enriching, with visits to the memorials of Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, as well as the iconic White House!
We also planned to explore the vibrant neighborhood of Georgetown, try some culinary delights from around the world, and enjoy the rich mix of cultures that makes Washington D.C. a truly remarkable destination.
Definitely, our trip to Washington D.C. has already left a lasting impression on us. We have enjoyed this journey in every possible way, admiring the beauty of this incredible city and awaking our passion for history, culture, and exploration. Now we understand why this is the capital of the United States of America!
