Life at Drexel University has been a whirlwind of excitement, mixed with a dash of intense academic challenges from the quarter system. As midterms, assignments and projects piled up, I found myself seeking moments of relaxation and adventure amidst the academic hustle. It is also surprisingly the halfway mark of my journey here and I have about 2 more months to go which is insane!
The weather has just been amazing lately, with the fall trees, sunlight and clear skies. I took the chance to go out as much as possible to make use of this weather. One of my favorite spots was Cira Green, a hidden rooftop garden near campus. For the first time, I saw the Philadelphia skyline from a height of this rooftop park. The view was amazing, and it made me appreciate the beauty of the city in a whole new way.
Amidst the academic rigors, I decided to embrace the Halloween spirit in full force. Little did I know just how big Halloween is here in Philly. The city goes all out, and it’s not just about dressing up; it’s a full-blown celebration. Everywhere you look, people are sporting elaborate costumes, and there’s an abundance of Halloween events to attend over the weekend. It’s a festive atmosphere that’s hard to resist.
With my friends, we decided to get in on the Halloween action, even if our costumes were a bit last-minute. Instead of intricate outfits, we opted for a simple yet effective strategy – we splattered fake blood on the old white t-shirts we could find. I was quite surprised how you could easily buy a whole bottle of fake blood from Target as in Hong Kong you would either have to order it or find it in one of the Halloween street markets that open during this time of the year. Our outfits in fact turned out pretty good even though it was simple and easy.
However, as the fall season progresses, a new challenge emerges – adapting to the sudden drop in temperature. Coming from Hong Kong, where the lowest temperatures hover around a mild 17 degrees Celsius, the chilly weather in Philly caught me off guard. The cold winds and plummeting temperatures were a reminder that winter is on its way. Navigating the transition from a more tropical climate to a cold one can be quite an adjustment, but I’m not really bummed by it as I won’t have an experience living in a condition like this again.
The blend of academics, exploration, and holiday celebrations has made this season at Drexel unique and memorable. It’s a reminder that college life is not just about textbooks and lectures; it’s about building friendships, experiencing new cultures, and indulging in new experiences.
As I continue the rest of my journey at Drexel, I look forward to more challenges and adventures that come my way. Whether it’s acing those midterms, discovering new spots in the city or embracing the winter chill, each day brings a new opportunity to learn and grow. So here’s to the chill, the thrill, and all the unforgettable moments that make this chapter in my life so remarkable.
