Tips for module representative
We come across many modules throughout the year during our course. There are some that we genuinely enjoy and some that we would want to improve – either way, there is a way for you to get more involved in the feedback process of a module while still adding to your CV. So here are a few tips to help you stay organised during your module representation!
Track your tasks and feedback/queries of students using an Excel sheet!
- A sheet should be dedicated to tracking the official messages you must send to the students as a representative.
- Another can track the progress of queries from students as shown below: (when it comes to this, trust me. As the questions pile up, memory alone cannot be reliable)

Try to automate the feedback process!
- Create a feedback form using Google Forms or Microsoft forms (preferred).
- With each survey, try and include a question that asks the students to rate the module so, during the process, you can observe if the feedback loop that you are trying to use to improve the experience is working.
- Try to get as many responses as possible!!
Try using polite, positive and confident words when communicating with the Module manager.
- This needs to be done to develop a problem-solving attitude and yet be direct and humble with any queries/ problems you are trying to discuss.
- E.g., The students don’t understand the ‘x.’ assessment’s requirement – can be reworded as – The students would like to get more information about the assessment ‘x’s’ requirement.
Try to make the process of giving feedback more fun for students. To do this, I created a place to chat/discuss the module online.
- This will also make the process of updating all the students easy.
- Discord and Slack are great platforms for this!
