This is it: you’ve put in the work, secured an offer and it’s almost time to join us here at the University of Stirling. We’re so excited to welcome you onto campus, and we want to do our best to help you make the most of your first weeks at Stirling. That’s why we’ve put together this quick welcome week checklist. Just follow these steps, and we promise you’re going to have an incredible start to your time here at the University of Stirling.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.

1. Download the University of Stirling app

All the amazing welcome week activities and workshops are available via the University of Stirling app so your first action should be to download the app. Get all your university services at your fingertips as well as real-time, on-the-go, anytime information to support you during your time at Stirling.

Best of all: it’s available to all students and staff for free!

Download the app here.

2. Complete your Stirling Essentials module

Stirling Essentials is our online module designed to help you prepare for life at Stirling. We recommend you work through this module before you begin your studies.

You can complete the Stirling Essentials module through Canvas, which is the University’s online learning environment.

3. Enrolment

The dates for online enrolment and module registration have now been finalised, and both will open for both undergraduate and postgraduate students on 9 January 2023.

Please note you can access the timetable checker on the student portal before you complete module registration.

4. Get to know Stirling

We’re proud to call Stirling our home – a city shaped by its unique history, with a lively arts scene and the beauty of a national park close by.

Our vibrant city is known as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’, and is a fantastic place to stay during your studies. It combines the charm of a historic destination with the buzz of a young population – 20% of Stirling’s population is aged between 16 and 29 years (National Records of Scotland 2016). With easy access to both Edinburgh and Glasgow (both around 50 minutes away by road or rail), you have the benefit of two of Scotland’s largest cities nearby for weekend adventures.

5. Sign up for a skills workshop

Want to make the most of your first couple of weeks at Stirling?

We’ll be putting on loads of free online workshops throughout September designed to help you develop a wide range of skills. Workshops will cover IT, writing, reading, studying, researching and using the library, language and culture for international students, and loads more.

These workshops are a brilliant way to help you find your feet before you arrive on campus.

6. Get involved

In the first few weeks of the semester, we’ll be offering a range of activities both on-campus and online to help you meet new friends and make a great start to life at Stirling.

You can also join a range of online events including welcome workshops on topics such as student life, student support, and how to make the most of your time at University.

7. Attend your programme and module induction sessions

The University of Stirling has five Faculties, and each Faculty plans its own set of induction sessions to help you settle into life at Stirling and meet your classmates.

These induction sessions will take place during your first few weeks at Stirling in order to answer your questions and give you a taste of what’s to come.

If you’re a joint honours student, you should attend the events for both subject areas.

8. Explore Canvas and sign up for teaching sessions

Canvas is the University’s online learning environment. When you’re fully enrolled, you’ll get access to the Canvas area for each of your modules where your lecturers will post course information like readings, timetables, how things work and more.

This is where you sign up for teaching sessions and find out what you need to do (and when it needs done). Be sure to sign up soon, as teaching sessions quickly become full. Your lecturers will be on hand to help you.

Log into Canvas

Trust us: if you complete everything on this welcome week checklist, you’re in for an incredible few weeks.

Be sure to check out our student welcome site for all the information you’ll need to get started at Stirling – and if you’ve got any additional questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’re always happy to help, and we can’t wait to welcome you onto campus in September!
