Charming, romantic, dreamy, classic – Florence has it all. Study abroad in Florence and discover why this city along the Arno River has inspired countless visionaries.

1. The art museums are amazing

As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence has a rich and nearly unrivaled history in the arts. Visit Uffizi Gallery, home to masterpieces by famous artists like Raphael, Michelangelo, da Vinci and Botticelli. You can see Michelangelo’s best-known sculpture, David, at Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia.

2. It’s one of the world’s fashion capitals

It’s unsurprising that a region known for its high-quality leather takes fashion seriously. Florence is home to big-name luxury brands like Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo. Since 1972, Florence has hosted Pitti Immagine Uomo, a biannual fashion event featuring cutting-edge menswear.

3. You’ll fall in love with the food (& wine)

Each region of Italy has their own unique cuisine. Authentic Florentine cuisine centers around simple, fresh ingredients found locally. Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak), gnudi (naked ravioli), rustic soups and scrumptious gelato are all classic Tuscan dishes to try while in Florence. There are also plenty of high-quality wine options in Florence, with local wines coming from Tuscan vineyards in the nearby Chianti region.

4. You’ll learn to savor the moment

Florence manages to be a global city with plenty of attractions while still maintaining the slower-paced lifestyle at the heart of Tuscan culture. You’ll learn to embrace ‘La Dolce Vita’ (the sweet life) and take time to appreciate your surroundings. Expect to spend a few hours enjoying your dinner – waiters will not bring you your check until you request it!

5. You can visit famous sites…

Spanning the Arno River, the Ponte Vecchio is a must-see site in Florence. This medieval bridge was the only bridge in the city to survive the bombings of World War II. Make sure to visit the Florence Cathedral, one of the most famous landmarks in Italy. Designed by Filippo Brunelleschi  in the 15th-century, its renowned dome is the largest brick dome ever constructed.

6. …And see obscure sites off the beaten path

Did you know that you can view graffiti by Michelangelo? The famous artist carved the outline of a man’s face into the stone wall in Palazzo Vecchio. Nearby, visit the Museo Galileo where you can get up close and personal with Galileo – literally. The famous scientist’s middle finger, thumb, index finger and a tooth are on display.

7. Weekend trips are easy

Florence’s central location makes traveling to your other must-see destinations a breeze. Within Italy, you can easily visit bucket-list worthy places like Rome, Siena and Milan. Weekend trips outside Italy are affordable and convenient. You can spend your weekends visiting nearby France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Czech Republic and more!

Ready to find your own inspiration? Whether you are an artist, history buff, foodie, fashionista or just love Italian culture, Florence is sure to capture your heart!
